Observe that street markets are not ”ordinary markets”. Street market is an established concept in the cultural field: street market gives artists, designers and artisans the opportunity to sell their products and is a way to occupy public spaces to creative purposes.
Aura Street Market is a postmodern market for design products, arts and
crafts, and other articles with high quality and ethical values. Aura Street
Market functions as an inspiring forum and a place to exchange ideas for
creative people. The idea is to create connections between students and
professionals in the creative field in Turku, Finland and also other Nordic
countries and to enliven the cultural life of Turku. Aura Street Market
project emphasizes the bilingualism of Finnish culture. The project is
co-ordinated equally in Finnish and Swedish.

The first Aura Street Market was organised in Turku by the River Aura from
the 11th until the 14th of September 2008. The success of the event
surprised the organisators positively. There were about 3 000 visitors in
Aura Street Market. Visitors’ and participants’ feedback was extremely
positive: many of them felt that this kind of event has been lacking from
Finland. The emphasis of this year’s market event was on local young
designers but there were also students, artisans and artists from other
areas in Finland participating in Aura Street Market -08. The 30 market
tables were booked quickly during summer time.
In addition to the market event the diverse cultural program organised by
Aura Street Market in the centre of Turku attracted lots of audience. The
program included for example clubs, workshops, exhibitions, poetry and guide
tours.
Our ambition is to continue Aura Street Market after 2008 with more weekends
and events!
Aura Street Market is organized by Aura Street Market Association, which was
